This isn’t really a bar/brew pub review. But I think it qualifies due to the fact that it’s in the same place every year…

Oktoberfest. I know – you’ll never beat the actual celebration in Germany. But, there are plenty of places stateside that host a yearly event mirroring the schedule of the German original. There are also various small “Fest themed” celebrations at bars, restaurants, and even homes everywhere. One of the better ones in Southern California is at Big Bear Lake, and has been held there since 1969. You can read a detailed history at the OFFICIAL SITE.

Aside from being a huge party with copious amounts of beer, music, and games – the Big Bear venue designates Sunday’s as family day. The whole family is welcome, with free admission for kids under 12. Once you buy your tickets (preferably online and well in advance), you show up, get your commemorative mug (if you selected that package) and start celebrating.

In 2015, I bought some raffle tickets to support the local Lions Club. This year the charity was going to help those who couldn’t afford eyeglasses. I actually won (which I NEVER do) and got this beautiful custom stein. It’s got the traditional art, and is really heavy duty.

This year’s celebration is every weekend from September 10 – October 29. Details can be found here: Big Bear Oktoberfest. You can buy your tickets in advance HERE. I recommend checking it out. Prost!
